Sabrina C. Beavens Accepts Position on the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association Board of Directors

Attorney Sabrina C. Beavens has accepted the position of Out of State Liaison on the Board of Directors for the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association (NHWBA).

Founded in 1998, the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association’s purpose is to “promote and support the advancement and interests of women in the legal community through leadership, professional interaction, education and the exchange of ideas between our members and the community.”

Attorney Beavens Attends ABA Annual Meeting in Toronto

August 4, 2011

The American Bar Association (ABA) held its Annual Meeting in Toronto, Canada from August 4th until the 10th. Attorney Beavens attended the conference where she organized a dinner in her position as a member of the Section of Litigation’s Woman Advocate Committee for over twenty (20) women lawyers and law students. She also attended a luncheon where the former Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chrétien, spoke about a range of political issues from the U.S. economy to his decision not to join the U.S in the Iraq war. Lastly, Ms. Beavens attended numerous seminars on topics including advising small businesses, civil rights in the 21st century and pay equity issues facing women in law firms.

The conference theme was “Sea, Space, and Science: Exploring the Legal Implications” and included programs and panel discussions by distinguished experts on a variety of subjects and topics.

Sabrina Beavens interviewed New Hampshire’s first woman Supreme Court Chief Justice, Linda S. Dalianis, on April 15, 2011. Chief Justice Dalianis was recently appointed after the retirement of John Broderick. She was the first woman at her firm in Nashua, New Hampshire in 1974, the first woman Superior Court Justice, the first woman Superior Court Chief Justice and, finally, in 2000, the first woman to join the New Hampshire Supreme Court. Sabrina Beavens served as a judge at the University Of New Hampshire School Of Law’s Mock Trial Tournament this weekend. The tournament included 20 teams of undergraduate students who were required to present both the plaintiff and defense side of a civil trial from opening statements to closing arguments. Attorney Beavens was impressed by all of the students who have no formal legal training and she admittedly enjoyed pretending to be a judge for a few hours.

Touring Kitchens for a Great Cause

An Interview with New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney

Sabrina Beavens, a member of the New Hampshire Association for Justice’s Publication Committee, interviewed New Hampshire Attorney General Michael Delaney, who was appointed to office in August 2009 by Governor John Lynch. Attorney General Delaney’s path to the head of the Department of Justice started from the trenches as a first year associate learning from seasoned trial lawyers. Thereafter, he transitioned to public service at the New Hampshire Department of Justice rising to the post of Chief of the Homicide Unit. After several years serving as Governor Lynch’s Legal Counsel, Delaney returned to the Department of Justice as Attorney General.
